Seriously, have you ever seen an infomercial? It’s always some everyday object or medication, hyped as unbelievable miracles with testimonies from “actual unpaid customers” and supported by “independent scientific studies”. The fact that those “scientific studies” don’t seem to have found their way into any serious scientific publication, or can’t be found at all, is never addressed...

Then you have the “not paid in any way to be here audience” that goes “HOOO!” and “HAAA!” every 10 seconds. Would you really trust a group of people who has nothing better to do with their time? No, seriously, where did they find these people? Maybe hanging out at infomercial recordings is a hobby of theirs.

Lets not forget the actor who can’t find a real acting gig so ends up having squeegasms left and right at every word the guy selling the item says. “HOOOO! It trims nose-hairs so they don’t grow back for months?! How has civilization survived without it! GAAAAAH!”

Handling and Shipping fees are rarely mentioned and are non-reimbursable. Many times it will cost you more to send the item back than what it’s worth, and you’ll lose the H&S fees anyway. Because of this most people won’t bother sending it back, and I suspect the infomercial guys rely heavily on this.

And what about the disclaimers? *Results shown are not typical* or *Individual results may vary* or *Shown results are indicative only and may not reflect real-life outcomes* so in other words what they’re telling you is, “We’re making all of this up, it might or might not work as presented in this show (chances are it won’t), but since we have a disclaimer you can’t sue us for misrepresentation.”

You can’t buy happiness, but someone somewhere must be planning to try to sell it on an infomercial…
